This Ride Ain't For The Faint Of Heart

Lessons from the 64 squares...

"Talent is cheap; dedication is expensive. It will cost you your life."-Irving Stone

Rooks are the cornerstones of the chess board. In the 5 pillars of NOTG, they represent "Dedication". They normally aren't used early in the game. Being shaped like castles, they are built for protection and aren't easily moved, much like the pictured Citadel of Aleppo which has been standing since circa 3000 BCE. Such is dedication.

There is a story of a top rated doctor who, being called in for emergency surgery, was harassed by the father of the patient for not arriving fast enough. He hurried into surgery, saved the life of the child and hurried out again. The incensed father asked the nurse why the doctor was so rude. The nurse then informed him that, "The doctor's own child was killed in an accident a few days before and he was in the process of burying his child when he got the call to save yours. He came immediately and is now going back to finish the funeral."

Dedication is not a part time gig. It does not settle for minimum wage. It requires our all. When we can learn to commit like the surgeon and stand like the Citadel, only then will we truly know greatness. #NOTG #ChessInRealLife #Stand #Commit #AllIn
